Sealed with Dogecoin Maserati GranTurismo will stun the world cars market with its Electric Powertrain and Alfieri styleAge: 24 months

Sealed in 27 December 2020 07:28:17 Opened at: 05 December 2022 05:00:00
The Alfieri concept from years ago isn't happening, but its styling will likely make its way to this new GT.

Maserati now says, "Forget the name Alfieri." Instead, it clarifies, its next and only grand touring coupe will again be named GranTurismo.
The voluptuous Alfieri concept car could still provide design direction for the revived GranTurismo.
An electrified powertrain is officially in the works, but it's unclear if the new car will be offered exclusively as an EV.
Maserati's stunning Alfieri concept car is no longer in the brand's product plan—at least, not with that name attached. But there's still good news: the Italian automaker says a new generation of the GranTurismo is coming soon to replace the current model, which was discontinued after the 2019 model year.

What's more, a Maserati spokesperson confirmed to C/D that the GranCabrio name will also be revived for a convertible version of the new GranTurismo. The hardtop coupe model should begin production as soon as 2022, with the softtop following a year later. The GranTurismo will slot into the Maserati lineup alongside a new mid-engine supercar called MC20.

The GranTurismo and GranCabrio are expected to usher in a new wave of electrification to the storied 105-year-old marque. Maserati told C/D that the new car will be the first Maserati to adopt an electric powertrain and that it will be produced in Turin, Italy. It's unclear at this point whether the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be offered exclusively as EVs or if a gasoline-only or some sort of plug-in-hybrid powertrain might also be offered.

No matter which way Maserati decides to go with the powertrain, we're hoping that the gorgeous Alfieri concept car will still provide design inspiration for the new models. We're also hopeful that Maserati will stick to the launch timing as planned, but recent events surrounding the global coronavirus pandemic may cause delays.
