A magnetic levitation train run by Central Japan Railway Co. set a world speed record of 590 kph during a manned test run on an experimental track. All the world records have been achieved as the company is stepping up preparations to start its maglev train services in 2027 to connect Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station with Nagoya, which are 286 km apart, in 40 minutes. That will be less than half the time existing bullet trains take to make the trip.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is set to move forward with a plan to go to the moon, landing an unmanned probe on the lunar surface as early as 2018. If JAXA is successful, this would make Japan the fourth country in the world to land on the moon. Aside from the distinction of being one of the few countries to have reached the moon, Japan's lunar trip will also mark further preparations for exploring Mars.

Paralysed patients have been given new hope of recovery after rats with severe spinal injuries walked again through a ‘groundbreaking’ new cyborg-style implant. Researchers at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne are hoping to move to clinical trials in humans soon. They believe that a device could last 10 years in humans before needing to be replaced.

OFFICIAL US Army and AAF Technical Intelligence Reports from 1945 list strange flight craft encountered over the Reich in the last year of the war. Jim Wilson of Popular Mechanics magazine researched this material for an article and through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) documents discovered that the modern USAF ADMITTED by 1995 that the Germans possessed flight discs but only conceded that they were "inherently unstable".

The best storage medium might actually be DNA, considering the vast amount of information it store relative to its weight – one gram can theoretically hold some 455 exabytes or more than the data collectively stored by all of Google, Facebook and every other tech company.

India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) will house the world's most massive magnet, four times larger than the 12,500-tonne magnet in the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at CERN in Geneva. In its turn - Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) will use a 20000-ton liquid scintillator, deployed 700 meters underground to detect neutrinos with excellent energy resolution.[3] It be surrounded by 15000 PMTs, a water pool, and a muon veto. The overbudrden includes 270m of granite mountain, which will reduce cosmic muons

The SoulPhone will be able to detect the impulses in our hands, which the brain is sent to force our hand or finger to move/tap. So when the phone is in your hand and you want to tap somewhere on it, it will detect the impulses and will tap there for you (without the need your finger to does any movement).

The new ability (named Brainguage) of our bodies will be unlocked with artificially developed organic implant. We will communicate via brain signals, which will eliminate the need of speaking and knowing foreign languages. Also if you want to lie to someone, you have to speak. If you use brain vibes - the other person will catch if you lying.

Deep in the Tunisian Sahara, TuNur is a solar-powered renewable energy initiative with a big ambition… Rather than the traditional method of using a range of photovoltaic solar panels to absorb the sun’s energy, the project uses “concentrated solar power” instead. Simply put, this process uses mirrors to refocus the sun’s force to a central tower, where water and molten salt is heated to 932 degrees Fahrenheit. That energy powers a turbine, which creates electricity.

Researchers at the Universities of Sheffield, Liverpool and the West of England, Bristol have set up a new project with the aim of ensuring robots meet industrial standards and are developed responsibly. The £1.4 million project will run until 2018. Professor Michael Fisher, principal investigator at Liverpool, said the project will ‘develop formal verification techniques for tackling questions of safety, ethics, legality and reliability across a range of autonomous systems.’

China is planting huge strips of trees to stop the Gobi Desert. For decades it has been advancing and causing serious dust storms in key cities such as Beijing. Since 1978 the government has been planting trees to reverse the widespread deforestation that took place in China. Now a recent study suggests the project has been a success They found increased vegetation and lower levels of dust storm intensity. By 2050 100 billion trees will be planted across a tenth of the country

In the year 2038, the world is in turmoil, with the United States having been fractured as a result of prolonged conflict, and a pandemic of the "St. Mary's Virus" ravaging the European continent. The United Kingdom remains the only stable country, being ruled as a fascist police state under the governance of the Norsefire Party. Any similarity with today's EBOLA events aren't purely coincidental.

Negroponte takes you on a journey through the last 30 years of tech. The consummate predictor highlights interfaces and innovations he foresaw in the 1970s and 1980s that were scoffed at then but are ubiquitous today. And he leaves you with one last (absurd? brilliant?) prediction for the coming 30 years.

Two Audi RS7 performance sedans raced around a track in northern Germany. The car without a driver won this matchup by five seconds. In its effort to bring autonomous-driving technology to the streets, Volkswagen AG’s Audi is testing unmanned vehicles at speeds as fast as 305 km/h. In these experiments, the car decides for itself the best way to take the corners in its race against human drivers.
